this is just an interpritation, but I felt that the author was trying to explain people leaving evangelisism for the post-evangelical church by saying that they had some kind of emotional-spiritual problem instead of facing the huge theological differences between the groups. I felt as though he just didn't want to face the problems that cause disillusenment in the first place. Also, this is just my experience, but I've never heard of anyone going back to the evangelical church after leaving it for the post-evangelical. I've heard of people moving to catholic churches or mainstream protestant, but never back to evangelical.
